Focus on Flavor

To kick off the third week of Boot Camp, the chefs have pizzas delivered to their recruits. Of course, this isn't just a pizza party — it meant their next challenge would involve making pizza from scratch. Anne and Bobby demo a couple of their favorite pies but give the recruits free reign with their own toppings — a scary proposition. "I hope I don't see too many pineapple pizzas," sighs Chef Anne.

Pizza Upgrade

Kelly is a big pizza fan, but has never made one herself: "I'm very good friends with my pizza delivery guy. I don't want him to be out of a job!" She ends up faring pretty well and coming in second place overall.

Boring on Boring

Bennett's topping combinations do not fare well. "Boring flavor and boring flavor does not add up to super flavor. You have far more flair than what's going on on this pizza!" says Chef Anne. His pizza ends up at the bottom of the pack.

Blind Tasting

Anne and Bobby left the kitchen while the recruits made their pizzas so that they could do an unbiased, blind tasting. There's a lot at stake for the team with the best pizza: The winner's chef will get to steal a promising recruit and send a struggling recruit to the other team. "I would rather be eliminated than go to Chef Anne because she'll kill me!" says Erica.

Blue Comes Up Big

Tiffany takes the win for Bobby's team with her artichoke pizza, so he gets to pick a Red Team recruit to come over to Blue. He sends David, who dropped half his pizza, over to Chef Anne. "This is a game-changer," Bobby says.

Recruit Swap

Bobby selects Melissa to come over to the Blue Team, and it lights a fire in her. "If Bobby Flay recognizes me as a strong player, I think I have a chance to make it," she says. "People are going to be dropping like flies."

Flavortown

The Main Dish Challenge is all about extreme flavors. Chef Anne gives her team some unexpected combos to sample, like bacon with caramel and mango with garlic. Then she demos a chicken dish with clementine-chili sauce and potato-cauliflower mash to get the recruits' ideas flowing.

Potato-Ricer Roadblock

Bobby's demo dish was grilled rib-eye with mango chimichurri and potatoes that he mashed using a potato ricer. Sarina is having major trouble with this tool: "This is like giving birth, isn't it?" Fortunately, she gets some help from Bobby.

Vanilla Downfall

Dorothy entered the competition with a dish of vanilla fried chicken, and somehow she still hasn't learned that this wasn't a good flavor combination. Anne is appalled when she sees vanilla extract going into Dorothy's dish once again.

Grilling Fiasco

As usual, Erica is all over the place in the kitchen. Grillmaster Bobby Flay has to step in to save her flaming rib-eye steak.

Bennett Delivers

After a low moment in the pizza challenge, Bennett redeems himself with his flavor-packed chicken dish. "It's seared beautifully, juicy, really good balance. Who are you today, Bennett?" asks Anne. He takes the win for the Red Team.

Benjamin Brings the Spice

Benjamin is also feeling good going into his tasting with his spicy steak dish. "Perfectly cooked steak and your mash is delicious. You're really starting to grasp the idea of flavor," says Bobby. Benjamin scores the Blue Team win.

Bye-Bye, Bob

Over on the Red Team, Bob doesn't have much success. His dish is too spicy for a second bite. "I've seen you go from sad Bob to kind-of-happy Bob. I love seeing that," says Anne. "Today you just got flustered and your dish was not so great." It ends up being his last dish at Boot Camp.

Erica's Exit

One of Bobby's most entertaining recruits also got the boot this week. He gives Erica some words of wisdom before she hands in her apron: "You have a great spirit. Just be careful in the kitchen!"
