I’ll (Finally) Feel Like an Adult When I Have This Kitchen Tool
Pretty, practical and universally adored — what more can you ask for?
I can still remember the first big-ticket kitchen item that was all mine — a KitchenAid stand mixer that my parents gifted me about nine years ago. It is hands-down one of my favorite gifts and I have used it regularly ever since. However, when it comes to kitchen tools that I can call my own, that’s about it. Though I love to cook and bake, most of my kitchen items are either hand-me-downs from relatives or things I share with my parents (aka my roommates).
As I’ve gotten older, though, I’ve slowly started to pick up bits and pieces that I can take with me to my future home — a wooden spoon here, an oven mitt there. Even so, I haven’t taken the plunge for any major cookware yet. But, when I do, I know exactly what I want to buy: The Le Creuset Heart Cocotte. With its sweet design and retro-inspired handles, this cast iron Dutch oven is as pretty as it is functional. Since it can be transferred from the stovetop to the oven, I can easily see myself making everything from breads and souffles to soups and hot dips. Plus, the cocotte makes a great centerpiece on any table or stovetop! I am partial to the pretty-in-pink finish, but it's stunning in red or white as well.
In addition to the aesthetic and function, it’s worth mentioning that the reputation of Le Creuset speaks for itself. Everyone from grandmothers to Gen-Zers love their cookware, which explains why the brand has been having a major moment on TikTok. Plus, our test kitchen listed the brand as a favorite in their review of the best Dutch ovens. Altogether, this is an investment piece that I believe will be well worth it.
To be honest, this particular items has become something of a personal goal for myself. I’ve been hesitant to purchase any major kitchenware before I have one of my own to display them in, but maybe now is the time to start! I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know my future kitchen will have a heart-shaped cocotte proudly on display.
