Omsom, the line of Asian sauce starters from sisters Vanessa and Kim Pham, both first-generation Vietnamese Americans, has joined forces with Instant Brands for one flavorful collaboration. As you may have guessed based on its name, Instant Brands is the company known for must-have kitchen appliances such as the Instant Pot and the Instant Air Fryer.

Beginning October 15, customers will be able to shop the Omsom x Instant sauce starters for best-selling Omsom dishes — Vietnamese Lemongrass BBQ, Spicy Bulgogi and Chinese Mala Salad. While the starters themselves aren’t new, as part of this collaboration they will now come with exclusive recipes designed specifically for Instant Pot and Instant Air Fryer use.

In other words, your fall meal prep just got way easier. Not only do the Instant Pot and Instant Air Fryer make mealtime a breeze, but when coupled with Omsom’s sauce packets you barely need to lift a finger. Each $29 bundle includes six starters (two of each flavor) as well as three Instant Pot recipes and three air fryer recipes.

For those who might be unfamiliar with Omsom, the women-owned brand sells rip-and-pour starter packets (which are designed to be paired with fresh protein and vegetables that the consumer purchases separately) that include all the specialty sauces, aromatics, citruses and oils that are the foundation of many Asian dishes.

For example, the Vietnamese Lemongrass BBQ starter was crafted by chef Jimmy Ly of Madame Vo in New York City, and is billed as a bold, aromatic twist on grilled barbecue. Ingredients include fish sauce, sesame oil, cane sugar, oyster sauce, oyster extractives, lemongrass, garlic, dark soy sauce and lime juice concentrate. The Instant Pot recipe paired with this starter is Lemongrass BBQ Braised Chicken, while the air fryer recipe is Lemongrass BBQ Cauliflower.

The second sauce starter that’s part of the Omsom x Instant bundle is Korean Spicy Bulgogi. This flavorful spice blend was developed in conjunction with tastemaker Deuki Hong of Sunday Bird in San Francisco and boasts a mouthwatering balance of sweet, smoky and spicy. Ingredients include: Gochujang (a red chili paste that’s popular in Korean cooking), cane sugar, gluten-free soy sauce, garlic, ginger, gochugaru, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, sake cooking wine, pear juice concentrate and salt.

To complement this bold starter, there’s an Instant Pot recipe for Spicy Bulgogi Braised Pork, as well as an air fryer recipe for Spicy Bulgogi Air-Fried Oyster Mushrooms.

Last but certainly not least, the final starter included in this collab is the Chinese Mala Salad. This starter is the brainchild of Amelie Kang of MaLa Project in New York City. It features a bold, savory salad with a spicy Sichuan kick, and gets its rich flavor from ingredients such as gluten-free soy sauce, black vinegar, garlic, chili oil, Sichuan dried chili flakes, cane sugar, scallions, sesame oil, Sichuan peppercorns and sesame seeds.

The Instant Pot recipe paired with this blend is a Mala Braised Cod and Vegetables, and the air fryer recipe is for Mala Chicken Wings.

This partnership between Omsom and Instant Brands is especially poignant since both brands are founded within immigrant communities. Omsom was started by the Pham sisters in 2018, while Instant was founded by a Chinese immigrant named Robert Wang.
